Dr. Ahmed Ameen Waheed is a board-certified nephrologist with extensive experience in internal medicine and nephrology. He serves as the Chief of Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and was recently appointed as the President Elect of the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Waheed has been a vital part of the Holy Cross community for over a decade, holding various leadership roles, including Medical Director of the Inpatient Dialysis Center and Section Chief of Nephrology.
Dr. Waheed earned his M.B.B.S. from Sindh Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, graduating with distinctions in medicine, anatomy, and biochemistry. He completed his residency in internal medicine and served as Chief Medical Resident at Michael Reese Hospital/University of Illinois in Chicago. Following his residency, he pursued a fellowship in nephrology at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, where he later became Chief Fellow.
With a passion for education and mentorship, Dr. Waheed holds an academic appointment as an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence with numerous awards, including America’s Top Doctor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in 2019 and the George Paff Teaching Award for Distinguished Electives Educator.
Dr. Waheed is an accomplished researcher with publications in prestigious journals such as Lupus and Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation. He has also presented at major conferences, including the American Society of Nephrology and the Florida Medical Association. His clinical interests include managing complex cases of nephrology and critical care, with a strong emphasis on improving patient outcomes.
Outside of his professional achievements, Dr. Waheed is fluent in multiple languages, including Dhivehi, Urdu, and conversational Spanish, and enjoys traveling, painting, and soccer in his free time. His dedication to patient care and commitment to advancing medical education make him a distinguished leader in his field.
