Respiratory Season Vaccination Guide by the AgeWell Center at Holy Cross Health
As the respiratory season approaches, our AgeWell Center at Holy Cross Health stands as your dedicated partner for health and well-being for seniors aged 65 and above, and immunocompromised individuals. Our physicians have carefully considered the unique needs of this vulnerable group. These recommendations aim to provide protection against RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), COVID-19, and the seasonal flu.
In this blog post, we present our physicians’ expert advice, emphasizing the importance of timely vaccination considering the recent summer surge in COVID cases and hospitalizations— serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat. To help you stay ahead of the curve and make informed choices, our AgeWell Center physicians recommend the following:
1. Get Vaccinated Early
- Flu Vaccine: Our physicians strongly advise receiving your flu shot early, ideally within the month of October. This proactive approach ensures protection before flu activity typically surges.
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Given the recent uptick in cases, we urge you to get the COVID-19 vaccine promptly if you haven’t already. For added convenience, consider receiving it on the same day as your flu shot.
2. Consider Immunization Against RSV
- RSV Vaccine: This year, we’re addressing the new challenge of RSV. Contrary to popular belief, RSV is not solely an illness for infants and adolescents. Seniors and immunocompromised individuals are also vulnerable. Our healthcare experts advise being proactive and considering RSV immunization. Consult with your physician to determine suitability and stay ahead of the evolving respiratory concern.
