TAVR valve implantation in the mitral position for patients with failing previous surgical valves has proven to be very successful here as well.
As we continue to grow our structural heart program here at Holy Cross Health, Transcatheter intervention continues to be on the forefront. This year we will reach 500 transcatheter aortic valve implantations since the inception of our program in 2012. Without a doubt, one of the most memorable cases we’ve completed was this year.
Some of our TAVR patients are now undergoing intervention under light anesthesia. The majority of our patients are being discharged home on post-operative number one. This enables quicker recovery times and most importantly less inpatient time in the setting of an ongoing COVID pandemic.
In addition, TAVR valve implantation in the mitral position for patients with failing previous surgical valves has proven to be very successful here as well.
MitraClip or transcatheter mitral valve repair for those patients with severe mitral valve regurgitation is becoming more popular as we embark on our second year of offering therapy. This remains an option for those who are symptomatic despite reaching targeted goals on oral medications.
We pride ourselves in being selective in the candidates we operate on, which ensures the highest rates of positive outcomes.
Our Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics office continues to grow in volume and we are happy to announce upcoming expansion of our office with 5 examination rooms and designated cardiopulmonary exercise (CPX) testing room. Collaborating with our Heart failure team allows up to not only optimize patients on the latest medical therapy but ensure their recovery after invasive procedures and/or surgeries are less taxing.
