Fort Lauderdale, Florida (August 19, 2024) – Is there a doctor in the house? How about two? For the dynamic duo of orthopedic surgeon Tara Gaston Moncman, D.O. and neurosurgeon Ryan Moncman, D.O., there are two in the house. The couple joined Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 130 physicians providing services throughout Broward County.

Prior to joining Holy Cross Health, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tara Gaston Moncman specialized in foot and ankle surgery and served as Chief of Research at The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute/AdventHealth Department of Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Surgery. She was also the Service Chief for Foot and Ankle for the AdventHealth Orthopedic Surgery Residency program.

Dr. Moncman completed a fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University / The Rothman Institute Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Surgery in Philadelphia. At Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey, she completed her residency and internship in orthopedic surgery and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. While at Rowan University, she was recognized as Chief Resident of the Year and Junior Resident of the Year. She received a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the varsity soccer team.

She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO), American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and Florida Orthopaedic Society (FOS). Dr. Moncman has conducted extensive research and given numerous presentations on various topics focused on foot and ankle surgery procedures and recovery. She received a $20,000 grant from AOFAS to investigate the optimization of leg elevation after ankle fracture fixation using Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy and physiological parameters. She also serves on the AOFAS Young Physician's Committee and has hosted podcasts and helps prepare the next generation of foot and ankle surgeons.

Outside of her practice and academia, Dr. Moncman is an impressive distance runner. In 2012, she became the youngest female and one of only 78 people to complete the 4 Deserts Grand Slam, where athletes run 250km six-stage ultramarathons in Antarctica; Gobi Desert in China; Sahara Desert in Egypt; and Atacama Desert in Chile, all in the same calendar year. A native of Newtown, Connecticut, she founded Newtown Proud Newtown Strong, which raised $250,000 for the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims and for a scholarship fund.

Prior to joining Holy Cross Health, Neurosurgeon Dr. Ryan Moncman was with Orlando Neurosurgery. Following graduation from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, he completed a complex spine surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a neurosurgical residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Moncman contributed to papers focusing on exosome-mediated brain tumor diagnostics from peripheral fluids, tension pneumocephalus following bariatric surgery, epithelioid glioblastoma presenting as aphasia in a young adult with ovarian cancer and pediatric spinal cord biopsy.

At Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey Dr. Moncman was an honors student and scholarship athlete on the golf team before transferring to the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
