MAKO Rio Robotic Arm System
This device assists surgeons at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during total knee replacements, partial knee resurfacing — an alternative to knee replacements that is useful for younger, active patients with early osteoarthritis – and total hip replacements. Since these procedures are notoriously difficult to perform by hand, the robot gives the surgeon greater stability and precision. It provides patient-specific, 3-D modeling for pre-surgical planning. As surgeons use the robotic arm to resurface the knee or hip for the placement of implants, the system uses real-time, inter-operative visual, tactile and auditory feedback, enabling a high level of precision and optimal positioning of the implants.
