Osteoporosis Care
Program Overview
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to thin and weaken thus becoming more susceptible to fracture. One of the most significant consequences of osteoporosis is fractures. Each year, the disease leads to 1.5 million fractures of the vertebra, hip, wrist, pelvis and rib. Fractures can lead to lost mobility, other medical complications and even death. Prevention of fractures is the key to maintaining quality of life in people diagnosed with osteoporosis. Also, studies have shown that weight-bearing exercises help build bone mass and decrease the rate of bone loss.
Holy Cross' Outpatient Rehabilitation Department offers a specialized Osteoporosis Program at the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women's Center. Our program, under the direction of highly experienced, licensed Physical Therapists, emphasizes fracture prevention and individualized exercise plans, which can be an effective method in managing osteoporosis. This unique service is offered at the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women's Center in a comfortable, private and serene environment designed for women, by women.
