The wife and mother of three girls heard the news no one wants to hear: the lump was cancerous and she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer.
Polyana doesn’t have health insurance and she called many locations to find the care she needed.
“I knew God was going to guide me in the way I needed to go.”
She was unable to connect with anyone, until she called Holy Cross.
“They called me back right away. They said, ‘Poly, don’t worry. Everything is going to be ok. We are here for you.’ And they helped me right away.”
Polyana underwent a left breast mastectomy, completed treatment and today is cancer-free. Now, her mission is to help educate women on the importance of self-detection and scheduling mammograms.
“The way God showed me my way through this. I want to show others to be strong. Faith and belief is key to healing. It was a really hard time for us, but I feel safe now.”
For Polyana, her husband and her their three children, the beach is their happy place. It’s where she feels free and at peace.
