Why Nurse Residency at Holy Cross?

 Holy Cross Health is proud to offer the first Nurse Residency Program in Broward County! This program was founded in 2008 and has trained and graduated over 500 nurses.  In 2024, Holy Cross Health’s Nurse Residency program achieved Accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The retention rate for Nurse Residents is currently at a very high 97%! This is a reflection of the satisfaction with the organization and profession as well as the commitment to Holy Cross that nurse residents feel.

The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program helps transition new nurse residents into their first clinical role. This program includes an evidence-based curriculum that focuses on leadership, patient outcomes, and professionalism. It is designed to help build confidence in the novice nurse, improve decision-making skills, enhance clinical nursing leadership practices and promote the incorporation of research-based evidence into practice. Participants benefit from access to benchmarking data, an up-to-date curriculum and the opportunity to network with peers.

• Skills training in Sim Lab
• Preceptor training on your desired unit
• Support from nursing leadership
• Shadowing experience in different departments
• Presentations from expert content speakers on a wide range of topics
• Hands-on practice with different disciplines, including IV start experience in ED, and rounding experience with respiratory therapy.
• Mentorship program
• Career Development meetings
• Creation of evidence-based project and implementation
• Access to multiple courses offered through Broward College, depending on your specialty

Once you complete the year-long program, your professional development does not stop there. The Nurse Residency Development Specialist and the Professional Practice team are available as lifelong resources for continuing education, certification, and navigation of transfers and promotions throughout the Holy Cross & Trinity Health system. Holy Cross' commitment to the next generation of nurses has been ever-present, but your nurse residency journey at Holy Cross is just the start.
