Why Nurse Externship at Holy Cross?

Holy Cross Health is proud to offer a distinguished Nurse Externship Program, providing nursing students with personalized, hands-on experiences in an acute care setting. This program effectively bridges the gap between academic learning and professional practice, allowing externs to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. At Holy Cross Health, we are committed to fostering the growth and development of nursing students in a safe and collaborative environment. Our nurse externs work alongside experienced nurses, performing clinical skills under their direct supervision, which enhances the nurse extern’s competency and confidence. This program not only strengthens clinical skills but also prepares nursing students for a successful transition into their professional careers.

Are you ready to be a Nurse Extern?

• Currently attending and in good standing at an accredited (ACEN/CCNE) school of nursing.
• Current BLS certifications.
• Satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course and clinical.
• Anticipated graduation date of less than 1 year from hire date.
 

What You Will Need To Apply:

Please make sure to include the following items along with your application when applying (Applications missing any of the following items may NOT be considered for the position):
1. Updated resume that includes your education, relevant work history, relevant volunteer experiences, and clinical rotations.
2. Unofficial transcripts that include your GPA and completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course.
3. 1 Letter of Recommendation from a clinical instructor, professor, or other healthcare related recommendation.
4.  A separate document that answers the following questions:
• What inspired you to become a registered nurse?
• What do you believe is your greatest strength so far in your clinical experiences?
• Holy Cross Health’s Core Values are Integrity, Reverence, Commitment to those who are poor, Justice, Safety, and Stewardship. Please give one example when you demonstrated one or more of these values when providing patient care during clinicals.

o  Participation in a foundational Transition to Nurse Assistant Program
o  Exposure to specialties via shadowing experiences (OR, ED, Cath Lab, and ICU)
