PRIME ECG
Holy Cross also offers Cardiac Scoring, a unique test that measures calcium buildup in the arteries, an early indicator for a potential heart attack.
We are the first Florida hospital to acquire the PRIME ECG, which offers potentially superior diagnostic capabilities, allowing physicians to gather critical cardiac information which may not be visible with the traditional 12-lead ECG. PRIME ECG uses 80 leads as opposed to the conventional 12 leads used on the front left chest.
These 80 leads cover "blind spots," in the right chest, sides and back of the patient, which assist in identifying myocardial infarctions earlier and improving the potential for better outcomes. PRIME ECG represents the first major advance in non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic devices in years. Clinical results have demonstrated its effectiveness as a front-line diagnostic tool.
Electrophysiology
Electrophysiology, offered by Holy Cross Health, allows doctors to regulate the electrical activity in the heart. Various procedures can treat abnormal heart rhythms and irregular heartbeats while preventing the risk of sudden death. These methods can be used to prevent dizzy spells or fatigue. Depending upon the outcome, the patient may be in need of a pacemaker, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or cryoablation (elimination of heart cells by freezing). Detecting Heart Disease: Cardiac CT v. Stress Testing
Fort Lauderdale, FL cardiac imaging specialist Claudio Smuclovisky, MD, talks about the most common cause of death in the world - heart disease - and how technology at Holy Cross Hospital in South Florida can detect cardiovascular disease years before it is detectable by traditional tests and screenings. Cardiac CT using our 256 slice CT scanner provides detailed 3D images of the heart, its vessels, involves 90% less radiation than nuclear stress testing, and the images are acquired rapidly - within two heart beats.
Talk to your doctor about the importance of cardiovascular screenings, including the HeartFlow FFRct Analysis.
