Hybrid Coronary Bypass
Hybrid coronary revascularization is an investigational procedure involving a combination of coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Hybrid coronary revascularization typically is performed on a person who has a blockage in the artery in the front of the heart and at least one other blood vessel with disease in it. This unique approach is a best of both world’s strategy – Holy Cross Hospital combines the durability of surgery with minimally invasive nature of stenting. It is optimal therapy with minimally invasive approach. This translates into shorter recovery time, potentially fewer complications and a quicker return to work.
Physicians from Holy Cross’ Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center can perform these procedures “off-pump” in a minimally invasive fashion, without opening the sternum. Typically, the incision is around three to four inches.
