Staying Safe and Entertained

Take These Steps to Have a Safer Experience When Visiting Entertainment Venues

In the last few weeks, more state and local governments have been reopening or expanding capacity in entertainment spaces such as movie theaters and sporting venues.

While these tentative steps toward our “new normal” are encouraging, it’s important to remember COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are still extremely high across the U.S., although they have been falling recently. And attending events and gatherings increases your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.

Because of these reasons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises gathering with people outside of your household at this time. However, if you do choose to attend a medium or large-sized event or gathering, outside events are always safer than those held inside and you should continue to take these steps to reduce your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19:

  • Correctly and consistently wear a mask that completely covers your nose and mouth.
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.
  • Avoid poorly ventilated indoor spaces.
  • Eat outdoors, if possible, and bring your own food and utensils (or purchase disposable, single-use condiments and utensils)
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or use hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol).
  • >Get vaccinated when the vaccine is available to you.
  • Get tested if you have signs or symptoms of COVID-19, or if you think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

While some recommendations for small indoor gatherings have changed for those who have been fully vaccinated, even if you are fully vaccinated (i.e., it has been two weeks since your one-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson) or two weeks since your second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine) the CDC recommends you continue to avoid medium and large-sized gatherings.
